Sustainability is Action, Not Intention according to recent Economist Impact report
Sustainability is no longer just a promise—it is a practice. As businesses, we have moved beyond posters, policies, and platitudes. Our responsibility is to show up with real action, not just rhetoric. The recent Economist Impact report, supported by Kyocera, revealed some powerful insights that should challenge how we think and lead.
- Senior leaders are driving sustainability, not junior staff. This overturns the stereotype that sustainability is a ‘next-generation’ concern. In fact, 41.3% of senior executives consider ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) when choosing where to work—compared to just 24.4% of junior staff. As leaders, we must recognise that our commitment to sustainability sets the tone, but we also need to make it easier for our teams to participate.
- Remote work is an unsung sustainability hero. Hybrid models can cut an employee’s carbon footprint by over half, yet this is often undervalued. At Kyocera, we continue to promote smart systems and cloud-based solutions because we know that sustainable practices are not just good for the planet—they make business sense.
- Real sustainability is about operational impact. The report shows that sustainability is most visible in practical actions, energy-efficient systems, paperless workflows, and smart technology. This is where Kyocera excels, helping our customers achieve their own ESG goals with solutions that are measurable, reliable, and future-proof.
As we continue our sustainability journey, remember this: It is not enough to talk about sustainability. We need to build it into our systems, our decisions, and our culture. We continue to lead by example, moving from intention to implementation, one smart decision at a time.
