Message of the week 14 - 18 July 2025

Managers need to take a more active approach to cybersecurity
Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue. It’s a leadership issue and while Ivan Weincier, IT Manager previously invited managers and operational leaders to adopt a stewardship mindset around cyber risk in the message of the week sent out on the 30th of June 2025, there is also a need to view cybersecurity as a strategic enabler, not just a safeguard. This resonates strongly with us at Kyocera Document Solutions South Africa as we see threats grow more sophisticated and increasingly target overlooked systems like print networks. Our role isn’t just to maintain infrastructure, it’s to help our customers reduce risk, protect reputation, and ensure business continuity.
Stewardship, in this context, means more than reacting to incidents. It means proactively identifying outdated drivers, unpatched firmware, unsecured print queues, or risky habits—and addressing them before they become business liabilities. At KDZA, we integrate this thinking into every service conversation.
Based on the HBR article I previously mentioned, it is suggested that leaders start taking a more active stance:
- Make stewardship your starting point: Treat cybersecurity as a strategic business issue, not just a technical one.
- Push for broader risk thinking: Encourage teams to connect technical decisions with operational, financial, and reputational outcomes.
- Prioritise due diligence: Regularly assess for outdated systems and technical debt before they compromise value.
- View cyber spending as strategic: Invest in protection not as a cost centre, but as a trust enabler.
- Turn updates into learning moments: Create a culture where cyber reporting builds awareness, not fear.
We already apply these principles within KDZA, whether it’s guiding a client through the transition to Windows 11, updating device firmware, or helping design a secure cloud print solution. We created a list of the ways Kyocera protects client data, including both device-level security and broader service-oriented practices. See below for the details of how we aren’t just fixing problems, we’re helping clients think ahead.
Organisations are facing a new wave of cybersecurity threats and there is no room for complacency. Together we will continue to focus on giving our customers’ data the best possible protection.
