Kyocera triumphs in 2023 Japan Packaging Contest, underscoring sustainability leadership
Kyocera recently announced its 16th win at the 2023 Japan Packaging Contest, securing the Logistics Award for the innovative packaging of its A4 printer product. For over two decades, we have been at the forefront of sustainability-focused innovation. This recent accolade acknowledges our commitment to developing printers and multifunctional devices (MFPs) with long-life parts and low-waste solutions.
This win is not just about a prestigious award; it's a testament to Kyocera's dedication to sustainability, a core principle since its inception in 1973. Our sustainability initiatives extend beyond product design with us actively promoting de-plasticisation by incorporating paper cushioning materials, constructed from recycled paper pulp into the packaging. This move aligns with a global shift towards eco-friendly practices and resonates with customers increasingly concerned about environmental impact.
The winning packaging, titled "Paper Packaging with Improved Repetitive Buffering," addresses multiple challenges faced by traditional paper cushioning materials. It ensures resilience during aggressive transportation, with the cardboard cushioning material collapsing into a bellows shape upon impact, maintaining support. Simultaneously, the pulp mould adopts a cylindrical form, preventing collapse after an impact.
Our sustainability journey has been acknowledged globally through various awards over the years. This year for the first time, we won two Frank Awards in the same year at The Cannata Report’s 2023 edition. We were named Best A4 Manufacturer for a sixth consecutive year and Best Technical Service Provider. In a world increasingly prioritising sustainable practices, Kyocera stands as a beacon developing solutions that not only meet the highest standards of quality, but also align with the urgent need for environmental responsibility.
I love that it is easy to champion sustainability because our own organisation takes it so seriously. I also have no doubt that we will continue to set new standards in innovation and sustainability, so together, we can build a smarter, greener future.
