Kyocera soars in sustainability

With sustainability and renewable energy top of mind as Kyocera acknowledges its long-term environmental targets, we are proud to announce that KYOCERA Document Solutions Inc. has achieved 100% renewable energy at two sites in Vietnam and China.

Both are major productions sites for Kyocera, with the Vietnamese site combining R&D functions with the production of multifunction machines and printers, while the site in Dongguan, China operates as a production base for multifunction machines, printers, and OPC* drums. Both sites achieved Environmental Value Certificates**, which provide official confirmation of 100% renewable-energy consumption.

These achievements are aligned with Kyocera’s long-term environmental targets based on the goals of the Paris Agreement, which establishes an international framework for combating global warming.

As a global company with a long established environmental ethos, Kyocera aims to achieve 100% renewable energy at all Group sites by 2030. This will be done by implementing concrete measures such as installing solar power generation facilities at all other production sites and obtaining environmental value certificates. Through its solar power generation facilities, Kyocera’s self-procurement of green energy will result in an estimated 8.5GkWh of electricity per year by 2026.

For Kyocera, these environmental goals are reflected in our late founder Kazuo Inamori’s philosophy of “Make correct decisions”, which enforces a fair-play principle in all business conduct. By taking care of people and the planet, Kyocera believes that we contribute to the progress and development of humanity and society.

We have been named a leader in energy-efficient printing technology and our printers use up to 70% less energy than many other printers. Whilst we know that Kyocera is committed to developing printers that use recycled materials and that can be recycled themselves, we also know that the printing industry as a whole is making significant investments in sustainability.

Overall, the printing industry is making progress in reducing our environmental impact. We know that there is more work to be done and there is a continued investment in more sustainable technologies and practices.

There is also an appeal for businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their printing by doing the following:

  • Print only what you need.
  • Print double-sided whenever possible.
  • Use recycled paper.
  • Use original toner.
  • Use electronic documents whenever possible.
  • Use carbon offset printing for important documents.

Let’s work together to reduce the environmental impact of printing.
