A fascinating article in The Margin, which unpacks the latest Margin Channel Survey, indicates that while digital transformation is proving far more than just hype, it’s also not “a quick fix or an overnight sensation”.
However, as South African business struggles simultaneously with a recession and trying to keep pace with the realities of an increasingly complex business landscape, the survey indicates that the channel is lagging behind when it comes to building sustainable business models to meet the changing needs of consumers.
Are the inherent limitations in spend, infrastructure and education pullin the potential of the digitalisation down into the dark? The short answer is – maybe yes, maybe no. The Survey found that it was in building suitable business models that the channel was lagging behind (54.1%), and this can be attributed to the fact that the channel knows that digital transformation is here, but they don’t know how to transform. From the survey numbers it shows that few programmes are fully adjusted to the new dynamics of cloud (5%) and it would seem that collaboration and a focus on innovative new ways of doing business is a priority.
